Engineering Drawing

Engineering Drawing Interview Questions And Answers (Part 1):- hello friends in this article 20 engineering drawing question with answer explain it. please provide you feedback about this post in comment box. and if you have more Engineering Drawing questions please comment below.

1. What are different methods of dimensioning ?

Ans:- There are two methods of dimensioning

  • Unidirectional system
  • Aligned system
  • Aligned system of dimensioning is more common

2. Name the principal planes of projection ?

Ans:- The principal planes of projection are three:

  • VP- Vertical plane for a front view
  • HP- Horizontal plane for the top view of the object.
  • PP- Profile planes for left or right side view of an object

Note- All these planes (HP, VP and PP) are right angle to each other.

3. What is unidirectional method of dimensioning ?

Ans:- All the dimension are placed in one direction only. these are normally put from left to right whether written on a horizontal / vertical / inclined dimension.

4. What is the aligned method of dimensioning ?

Ans:- The dimensioning are placed perpendicular to the dimension line. on a horizontal dimension, it is horizontal while on a vertical dimension.it is in the vertical direction.

5. What is selection view ?

Ans:- The object is cut by a vertical plane to see the internal invisible details in the front view.

the object is cut by a horizontal plane to see the internal invisible details in the top view.

6. Why are sectional view used in drawing?

Ans:- Selection views are -

  • Front right half in section
  • Total front in section
  • Total top in section

All the sectional views are  meant to see and understand the internal invisible details of the object. it will help in the right manufacturing as well as in repair and servicing of the object.

7. What do you understand by V.T. of a section plane ?

Ans:- It is a line in the vertical plane where the cutting plane is meeting as well as perpendicular to the vertical plane.

8. What do you understand by H.T. of a section plane ?

Ans:- It is a line in the horizontal plane where the cutting plane is meeting as well as perpendicular to the horizontal plane.

9. Write the practical application of intersection of surfaces ?

Ans:- Manufacture of tables, chairs, installation of air condition ducts, in the construction of boilers, furnaces, chimneys.

10. Write the practical application of interpenetration of solids ?

Ans:- Connecting pipe to a cylinder, making a tee joint in a pipe line, arm of a person going into the main body.

11. What is a plane ?

Ans:- Plane is two dimensional figure with limited / unlimited two dimensions.

12. What is a lamina ?

Ans:- Lamina is also a two dimensional figure with limited two dimensional. for example a sheet of paper is a lamina.

13. What is meant conventions in drawing ?

Ans:- There are standard symbols per national or internationals codes. there are standard symbol for types of lines, types of letters, types of of materials, types of section, types of joints used in industry as well as daily life. these conventions make the study easy, simple and convenient.

14. What is principal of development of surfaces ?

Ans:- The unfolding of an object on a flat surface is the principle of development. it is used in sheet metal work for the manufacture of funnels, boiler, chimneys and furniture of various types.

15. Why the drawing called the language of engineers ?

Ans:- It is because drawing helps in conveying ones idea in an easy, convenient and speedily manner, it also makes study simple as it uses internationals standard conventions and symbols.

16. What is trace of a line ?

Ans:-

  • Trace of a line is the point where line meets the plane on extending the line.
  • If  the line is inclined to hp it will have a H.T horizontal trace
  • If the line is inclined to VP it will have a VT (vertical trace)
  • If the line lies in a horizontal plane, it will have a horizontal trace as a line itself
  • If the line lies in a vertical plane, it will have a vertical trace as a line itself

17. Define representative fraction (R.F)?

Ans:-
  • It is a ratio of size on drawing sheet to the actual size of the object.
  • R.F.< 1For big object like air plane, ship, tree, lathe etc.
  • R.F.= 1 For object n common use. may be a book, shoe, pencil, pen, cell phone, remote etc.
  • R.F.> 1 For small size object like a wriest watch, pencil cell, thread needle, button rtc.

18. What is single stroke letter?

Ans:- A letter written in one stroke of the pencil is a single stroke letter.

19. What is double stroke letter?

Ans:- A letter written in two strokes of the pencil is a double stroke letter.

20. Why are the projection of objects not drawn in second and fourth of angle of projections?

Ans:- Front view and top view will overlap each other and thus there will be no clarity and it will all be a only confusion.
